Researchers at Bayer CropScience in Lubbock are working to bring cotton growers technology and traits that increase yield, improve stress tolerance and enhance fiber quality.

Bayer CropScience in Lubbock, Texas, is singularly focused on providing cotton growers with the products and solutions they need to meet an ever-growing global population’s demand for fiber. Founded in 1998 with three employees and a fledgling cottonseed business, Bayer CropScience today maintains a vibrant presence in Lubbock includes the company’s global cotton headquarters, two separate breeding stations, a seed processing plant, a seed warehousing facility, and a state-of-the art research and development lab.

Environmental Commitment
Bayer CropScience supports environmentally compatible practices, including recycling of plastic, paper, metals and electronics, as well as the use of biodegradable materials in kitchens and cafeterias. Sustainable methods are applied to packaging and shipping product whenever possible, and the green landscaping practices used on campus reflect the company and employee commitment to environmental awareness.

Community Commitment
Lubbock employees are actively engaged in Making Science Make Sense®, a company-wide initiative started more than 10 years ago to encourage enthusiasm for the sciences in schools. The site avidly supports local high school sports and clubs, sponsors the area’s popular ABC Rodeo and Cactus Theater, and participates in a yearly United Way campaign. Charitable contributions from Lubbock notably benefit the West Texas Boys’ Ranch, a facility that provides boys with a safe environment in which to grow and learn, and Caprock AMBUCS, a unique organization dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.

Safety Commitment
Staff at the Lubbock breeding stations and R&D center is specially trained in the areas field, greenhouse and laboratory safety, as well as in hazardous materials handling. Warehouse and maintenance staff also observes proper procedures when it comes to operating and servicing equipment and performing heavy lifting or related tasks, and all workstations are ergonomically designed to avoid repetitive stress injuries.

Meet Our Site Leader
Lee Rivenbark leads Lubbock operations with more than 25 years of industry experience and a lifelong appreciation for production agriculture. Having worked for Bayer CropScience in a number of capacities since 1997, Rivenbark currently holds the position of Global Head of Cotton and Head of U.S. Bioscience.
