A Rich History
With over 100 years of experience in science, technology, services and solutions, Bayer has continued to reinvent itself, creating new products and services and improving trusted brands in an effort to provide science for a better life. Bayer dates back to 1863 when Friedrich Bayer founded the company as a manufacturer and seller of synthetic dyestuff. In 1897, Bayer went global with the “drug of the century”—aspirin.
Crop Protection Services
Then, in 1924 the Bayer Crop Protection Research Department was established. The world’s first systemic insecticide, Systox™, was launched in 1951. From this first glimpse into the potential of bioscience, a half century of biotechnology innovation followed, transforming the growth potential of agriculture worldwide. Bayer moved into its modern-day headquarters in Monheim, Germany, 37 years later.
Agricultural Solutions
In 2002, Bayer CropScience was launched as the first legally independent Bayer subgroup and has been providing crop protection services and pioneering innovative agricultural solutions, including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and seed treatments, ever since.
