Who We Are

Our researchers and plant breeder specialize in using modern technologies and advanced techniques to make sure nothing goes to waste.

High-Performing Technologies
BioScience focuses on improving vegetable and agricultural crops including cereals, cotton, oilseeds, rice and soybeans, using modern technologies and advanced plant breeding techniques to get the most out of every seed. Side by side with our crop protection business, BioScience offers innovative, sustainable solutions for farmers and consumers alike.

In the United States, we offer high-performance hybrid canola, cotton, hybrid rice, vegetable and soybean seeds and trait solutions across multiple crops, including cotton, canola, corn and soybeans.

Focused On Tomorrow

Our seed and trait innovation pipeline is robust, and our research and development capacity is growing. More than 1,000 BioScience researchers and plant breeders are working on 70-plus research projects worldwide, focused on delivering innovations including yield enhancement, hybrid vigor, improved harvestability, novel herbicide tolerance, new pest and disease resistance, stress tolerance, improved resource utilization and quality characteristics.

Our technology platforms go well beyond classical plant breeding and include state-of-the-art genetics, molecular marker-assisted breeding, hybridization, plant biotechnology and bioinformatics.

Investing in Innovation

Bayer CropScience is committed to strengthening this part of our business, and from 2009-2018 is investing 3.5 billion Euro in BioScience. As an example of that commitment in action, the acquisition of HBK Seeds in 2011 brought about a significant expansion of our soybean breeding and trait development, capability and capacity. We also broke ground on a 60,000 square foot greenhouse research facility in Research Triangle Park. Thanks to these and similar investments, Bayer CropScience will now be able to bring our innovations to the marketplace more quickly.

The amount of food needed in the next 20-25 years is twice the amount produced over the past 10,000 years.
