Global Produce Sustainability

United Fresh Center for Global Produce Sustainability

Bayer CropScience presented United Fresh Produce Association’s Research and Education Foundation with a $1.1 million endowment to create the Center for Global Produce Sustainability in April 2009.

The Center for Global Produce Sustainability is bringing a strong focus to helping growers and food chain partners to proactively shape and influence the numerous developments driving enhanced sustainability in the produce supply chain.

Bayer CropScience has demonstrated its commitment to working with the entire food supply chain – producers, processors, food suppliers and retailers – to ensure high-quality affordable food, feed and fiber now and in the future while protecting and enhancing the environment.

Why We Need This Collaboration
Pioneering and delivering innovative and new solutions to growers is only part of Bayer CropScience’s role in sustainable agriculture. Sustainable development is a key strategic issue that will affect the business of Bayer CropScience and others in the industry.

United has worked with the industry to understand and define sustainability as it pertains to the fresh produce supply chain. Now, together through this Center, we can intensify those efforts and develop real tools and programs to help companies from growers through retail and foodservice to proactively manage sustainability in their business.

More than 96 billion pounds of edible food is thrown away in the U.S. each year-that’s 25% of our food supply!
