The most direct way to reduce hunger in the U.S. is through programs like the backpack program. Bayer CropScience collaborated with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to launch the BackPack program which is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children at risk of hunger during non-school hours, specifically weekends. This innovative program helps meet the nutritional needs of nearly 900 children who might not have access to nutritional food on weekends and holidays.
2010 Food Fight Competition

Annually, employees divide into the East and West wing to battle out to see who can collect the most pounds of food. In April 2010, 4,183 pounds of non-perishable food were collected and donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. During an event to recognize employee efforts, a $50,000 donation to the backpack program was also presented.
